Leedes was the son of Thomas Leedes of Hopenthorne, Yorkshire and his wife Mary Leedes, daughter of Thomas Leedes of North Milford, Yorkshire.〔(Dugdale - Visitation of the County of York )〕 He was knighted at Whitehall on 8 January 1611 as of Surrey or Sussex.〔(Knights of England )〕 He and his parents owned property in Sussex part of which was sold in 1612.〔( 'Parishes: Piddinghoe', A History of the County of Sussex: Volume 7: The rape of Lewes (1940), pp. 66-69.
